In The First Quarter, Sales Of German PV Equipment Manufacturers Fell By Nearly Half.
- Jun 25, 2018 -

According to data released on Tuesday by the German Engineering Federation (VDMA), German solar photovoltaic (PV) production equipment manufacturers increased by 31% in the first quarter of the year, but a 48% decline and a 51% decline in orders.

Peter Fath, head of VDMA photovoltaic equipment, said that investment in upgrading and new manufacturing capacity is slowing down, and equipment prices have also been observed to decline. Nevertheless, orders for solar energy equipment manufacturers are still adequate, and in the first quarter, the ratio between orders and delivery systems was 0.4.

The export ratio of German solar manufacturing equipment suppliers set a new record of 93% in the first quarter of 2018.

The highest sales volume of German technology suppliers during the review period was thin film photovoltaic equipment, accounting for 61%, followed by battery production machinery, accounting for 32%. Fath added that at the same time, new orders were becoming more and more interested in PERC and Black Silicon devices because of silicon crystal products.

Jutta Trube, executive director of VDMA photovoltaic production equipment, points out that orders from Asia are now more widely distributed in some countries in the European continent.

Since June, China has substantially reduced its support for new solar energy projects, which is expected to result in a serious oversupply of the market. According to GTM Research senior solar analyst Jade Jones forecast, solar energy prices will fall by 32% to 36%. Suppliers may be forced to slow production capacity investment.
