High Electricity Prices In Australia Push The Rooftop PV Into The Boom
- Apr 20, 2018 -

High electricity prices contributed to the emerging boom in commercial and residential rooftop photovoltaics in Australia. In 2017, 1.2 GW of solar energy was installed. In 2007, there were only 300 approved installers.

Recently, the Australian Clean Energy Commission (CEC) has certified the country's 5000th PV project installer.

High electricity prices contributed to the emerging boom in commercial and residential rooftop photovoltaics in Australia. In 2017, 1.2 GW of solar energy was installed. In 2007, there were only 300 approved installers.

To celebrate this opportunity, the first approved installer, Geoff Stapleton, awarded prizes to John Morrell, the 5,000th, for 5,000 Australian dollars (3,883.50) worth of tools and training vouchers. One in five Australians installed solar energy on the roof, but CEC expects demand to remain high.

A statement stated that “The Clean Energy Commission expects that the number of approved installers will continue to grow in the coming years, as current high prices encourage more consumers and companies to consider adopting rooftop solar installations.”

In addition, the market's interest in energy storage systems will also increase the number and requirements of CEC certified installers
